It's a good thing that I'm familiar with both the odyssey and the illiad. I'm not 100% sure when I'll be able to be back in class because the doctor said that what I have going on is a 10-day viral thing. I'll do my best to stay up to date with this site. :)

Ian,
I hope you feel better soon! We are actually a day or two behind my original schedule. We discussed the paper assignment today and started the biography assignment. It will take at least one more day to finish the biography LRJ assignments.

Thank you to Chad for answering Enzo's question. (This is my favorite part of 2.0 technology). It is also linked on the main page if you click on "sample biography."
As for Maya's comment, look for people in your life that you look up to or are inspired by.

I haven't heard yet, but try spps0708. If that doesn't work, try spps0809. If that doesn't work, we'll have to wait until Mrs. Erickson gives us the password.

Are you adding comparison charts for fun? Is it part of your presentation? I think that it would be great to have as part of your presentation, but since you are writing a comparison analysis, I don't know if you need a chart in the paper.

broski it is like so-
upper left corner:
Your Name
Ms. Peifer Peifer page# (upper right corner)
10 IB Hour 5
Due Date
Title(centered)
in size 12 times new roman, double spaced
lindsay.peifer@... said
at 8:33 pm on Oct 5, 2008
Almost--here is what is should look like:
Your last name page number (1/2" margin--upper right side)
Your Name (starting one inch down on left hand side)
Ms. Peifer
10 IB Hour 5
Due Date
Everything is correct except for where the page number is on Jake's example, which could have happened in the actual commenting process.

Well, I don't know about fair or not, but I don't know if I 'll be in school tomorrow either. I still am not feeling well. Therefore, it would be impossible for you to present tomorrow. So, yes, presentations will have to wait until Wednesday. Sorry everyone!

Is there something else that the mythology project needs besides the creative story and the presentation?
lindsay.peifer@... said

The comparative analysis! The presentation will present both the comparative analysis and the creative story.
e_dizzil32@... said
at 4:46 pm on Oct 6, 2008
The comparative analysis of the subject. Tyler and I are doing a power point presentation, so is the analysis put on the presentation or typed up on a word document? Also, what if we can't find other cultural stories about our subject?
lindsay.peifer@... said
at 5:00 pm on Oct 6, 2008
The analysis needs to be turned in as a word document. You decide how much you want included in your power point. The general rule is that there should only be about 3 points per slide. If you haven't found other cultures' stories, I would say you are in bad shape since this is the main point of this assignment. You need to keep looking--possibly in the library. There are mythology sections in book stores as well that you could use--remember to cite your info there in case you aren't buying the books. The myths are definitely out there!

Don't worry Jake--I have already acquiesced to this illness and have called a sub for tomorrow. :) I plan on being at conferences though so you can let your parents know; I also plan on being back in school on Wednesday.
Ian--yes, you still have to research other myths from other cultures; I cannot stress this enough--this is the point of the project!
Mai--yes, I did get your email. Look at your email for my comments on your powerpoint.

Oh--one more thing: Tomorrow, you will read the next book in The Iliad. (By the next book, I don't mean book 2, but the next book I want you to read--I think book 22, but I cannot remember if this is right here at home in my foggy state.) The handouts are on the center table. If the sub is confused, help her out, please. There is an LRJ assignment as well. The sub has that assignment, but I will post it here on the wiki as well.

Hi Ms. Peifer. Sorry, I alway feel like I'm always bothering you. But I emailed you and you haven't emailed me back and it's late and I still have Math to do. Well anyway, I can't get the header into my paper. I think I have the cheap version of Microsoft works and when I put in the header, it says, "Lee and Vang 1" for the first page. But on the second page it also says, "Lee and Vang 1." So I dont' know how to put it in. So I was wondering if you can help me. Thank you.
lindsay.peifer@... said
at 9:23 pm on Oct 7, 2008
I emailed you in return, but I think my email shut down. Here is my reply: Did you insert page numbers or did you just type in 1. If you just typed in 1, it will show up as 1 on every page. If you clicked the insert page numbers icon, you should get the correct page numbers. If you did click insert page numbers and it didn't work--well, then I am stumped as well. Could you upload it into a google doc and then open it up again in class. I can take a better look at it then.
lindsay.peifer@... said
at 9:26 pm on Oct 7, 2008
Oh--I forget to say this earlier--it is MLA (not MEA), which stands for Modern Language Association. Purdue's cite on MLA is excellent and if you haven't added to your bookmarks, it would be a good idea for you to do. (You can add it to delicious as well if you have an account with them).

Ms. Peifer, I'm working on the paper, and I put the page number in, but I couldn't figure out how to put the last name in. Also, I'm not sure if it's a 1/2" margin. I went to "Insert" and clicked on page number. It added the page number but I didn't see an option for changing the margin.... How would I go about putting the last name in and making sure it's the right size margin?
Moriah Seaberg said

Also, does the header with the name, hour, date, etc. need to be double spaced? I don't think it does, but when you did the little example in class last week, you double spaced it, so I just want to make sure.

how detailed of a moment are you looking for with this paper? would something like my grandfather's childhood during the depression be a far too broad area? is it more looking for one or two super detailed accounts?
ALSO. for the timeline does each moment on it need a specific date or can some of them just be identified as happening before or after certain events?
