Subject Criteria

• Over the age of 40
• Accessible
• To be based on personal interview
• Lives a life that is “authentic”—Hero’s journey can applied to her/his life; provide evidence of this in your paper
  • Departure—call to adventure
  • Helpers/Mentors (Aid from a protective figure who provides a weapon or skill that helps person cross into the next step)
  • Crossing the threshold of adventure—initiation
  • Tests/ Road of trials
  • Other helps/mentors that accompany hero on journey
  • Innermost cave-battle with self
  • Return and reintegration into society—return knowledge, skill, wisdom to society

Format and Length Requirements

• 3-5 pages
• Typed
• Double-spaced
• MLA format: heading, margins, page numbers

Other requirements of the paper

• Interview questions
• Answers to interview questions
• A personal timeline for your subject AND a historical timeline that mirrors her/his life
• Paper needs to be thoughtful and edited
• Use sensory details
• DO NOT write a paper about the person’s entire life—focus! (The focus should be determined through the interview.  Make use of “real footage” where possible.  Provide historical background where appropriate and document correctly.
